A former Vancouver Canucks forward has reportedly found a new home in Europe just weeks after having his contract terminated in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL).

Spooner joined his fourth different KHL club since entering the league during the 2019-20 season, as he suited up for the newly-rebranded Shanghai Dragons, who have former NHL Head Coach Gerard Gallant behind the bench.

“The Shanghai Dragons and forward Ryan Spooner have mutually terminated their contract.” The KHL said.

According to SwissHockeyNews.ch, reports indicate that Ryan Spooner will be signing a contract with HC Lausanne of Switzerland’s National League for the remainder of the 2025-26 season.

“According to “Blick” and “Teleticino”, the 33-year-old forward will supposedly suit up for Lausanne HC for the remainder of the season.” SwissHockeyNews said.

HC Lausanne currently sits second in the National League standings with 24 wins in 37 games and adding another offensive piece like Ryan Spooner could pull them even closer to the league leaders HC Davos, who are coming off their second Spengler Cup victory in three years.

Spooner, a native of Ottawa, Ontario, began his career in the National Hockey League with the Boston Bruins, who selected him in the second round of the 2010 Entry Draft, before going on to play for the New York Rangers, Edmonton Oilers and the Vancouver Canucks.

The 33-year-old centerman was traded from Edmonton to Vancouver in February of 2019, with the Oilers receiving Sam Gagner in return, and went on to put up four assists in 11 games as a Canuck.
