The Vancouver Canucks organization is continuing to deal with injury issues as a top prospect remains on the sidelines in the AHL and is still being evaluated.
While it isn’t the only reason why, injuries have been a factor in why the Vancouver Canucks currently sit 31st in the National Hockey League’s overall standings and as some players gear up for a return to game action very soon, one of the team’s top prospects is currently out of the lineup and it isn’t exactly known when he could return.

“General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that F Jonathan Lekkerimäki has been assigned to Abbotsford (AHL).” the Canucks said on December 7th.
Down in the American Hockey League this season, Lekkerimaki has thrived, putting up six goals and ten points in nine games but unfortunately for the Tullinge, Sweden native, he became the latest to sustain an injury.
“A Canucks spokesperson said Sunday that Lekkerimäki is “being evaluated.” The team has never been overly forthcoming about injuries with Abbotsford, so this latest Lekkerimäki situation is very much on brand.” Ewen said.
Lekkerimaki’s last game for the Abbotsford Canucks came just before Christmas on Saturday, December 20th when the club defeated the Tucson Roadrunners, AHL affiliate of the Utah Mammoth, by a score of 2-1.
Since then, Lekkerimaki has been on the sidelines and hopefully for the sake of his development, he won’t be out for too long, especially since he’s likely to get another crack in the National Hockey League this season amid Patrik Allvin’s plans to get younger during their “hybrid retool”.
