The Winnipeg Jets were eliminated from the 2024-25 playoffs on Saturday after a 2-1 overtime defeat to the Dallas Stars in Game 6, and following the elimination, rumours are swirling about which players could be heading over to Sweden and Denmark for the 2025 IIHF Men’s World Championship.

Nikolaj Ehlers, who enjoyed his most productive postseason, is reportedly heading over to join Team Denmark for their final game of the group stage. They are currently tied with Germany for the final spot among the top four in Group B, and the winner will head to the knockout rounds.

The 29-year-old has played in the World Championship four times previously, scoring 10 goals and 26 points in 29 games. He’s heading into his first season as a UFA as one of the most sought-after free agents.

Additionally, reports are stating that Team Switzerland are strongly pursuing Nino Niederreiter, hoping he’ll join their roster, which currently sits atop Group B. They’ve brought several NHL players, headlined by Kevin Fiala, Nico Hischier, Timo Meier, and J.J. Moser and are looking to win a medal in back-to-back seasons.

Niederreiter was once again an effective bottom-six player for the Jets, recording just under 20 goals and 40 points. He plays a defensively responsible game with a physical edge.
