SALT LAKE CITY – An outdoor game could be in the Utah Mammoth’s future as soon as 2027 according to NHL Analyst and ‘Spittin Chiclets’ Co-host Paul Bissonnette.
In the latest episode of the popular hockey podcast, Bissonnette reported that while the league has yet to announce its official plans, Utah will in fact host an outdoor game next year.
“Utah is going next year. They haven’t announced it yet apparently, but I just did. Sorry Gary,” Bissonnette said.

Will the Utah Mammoth host an outdoor game in 2027?
Alright, here’s what we do know about the Utah Mammoth hosting an outdoor game.
It’s coming.
The organization has been involved in ongoing conversations with the league about hosting an NHL game outside for some time so it’s not a matter of “if”, but rather “when.”

“An outdoor game is in Utah’s future,” Commissioner Gary Bettman confirmed last March.
“Utah is going to get an outdoor game and it’s going to be great because I know the reaction from the community is going to be as good as we’ve ever seen.”
Where will it be hosted?
Rice Eccles Stadium as NHL officials have already scouted the venue and it simply makes the most sense with proximity to the airport, downtown Salt Lake City and the Delta Center.
“We’ve had people look at the stadium at the University of Utah,” Bettman said.
“This is just an ideal situation for us. An outdoor game is in Utah’s future but we’re not going to break news because I don’t have a date yet.”
As Bettman has stated on multiple occasions, an outdoor game is in Utah’s future, but a date has yet to be set.
Could it happen in 2027?
Absolutely.
The NHL has yet to announce a complete outdoor game schedule for 2027 which means Utah could certainly be in the running.
Additionally, the organization has also proven that they have what it takes to operate on short notice as they moved a hockey team from Arizona in less than six months and constructed a brand before the puck dropped on season two.
So, while the NHL has yet to confirm when exactly Utah will host an outdoor game, fans can rest assured that it will happen.
We’ll just have to see if Bissonnette’s report of 2027 is accurate or not.
