A hockey club has paid tribute to a man who was ‘a pillar of the community’ who was among three who died in a fire.

Dave Chester, 57 and from Bicester, died in the fire at Bicester Motion on Thursday evening, along with firefighters Jennie Logan, 30, and Martyn Sadler, 38.

The father-of-two died trying to help the firefighters ‘without hesitation’, his family said in a tribute released on Monday.

Since the tragedy there has been an outpour of grief from the community, with book of condolences opened and services held in memory of the three who died.

Mr Chester was the father of Jordan Chester, who was the 1s captain at Bicester Hockey Club.

“David Chester was a pillar of the community, a local business man running Chester & Sons. Alongside Jordan, other members of the club worked for david. He was well respected man and will be a great loss to all.

“Everyone at the club wishes Jordan and his family their thoughts and condolences during this difficult time.”

A police investigation – which is not currently a criminal one – is underway, but the cause of the fire is not known at this time.
