“The men’s nomination includes players from the NHL, Czech Extraliga and other European competitions. The selection includes experienced Olympians, led by Roman Červenka, who will be competing in his fourth Olympic Games. In addition, six players who were on the preliminary Olympic roster were previously introduced: David Pastrňák, Martin Nečas, Ondřej Palát, Pavel Zacha, Radko Gudas and Lukáš Dostál.” the Czech Ice Hockey Association said in a press release.
After the announcement, the Vancouver Canucks took to social media to congratulate David Kampf and Filip Hronek on this well deserved honor.
“Czech it out!
Congrats to David Kämpf who will be representing Czechia at the upcoming Olympic Winter Games.”
“Fil is in!
Congratulations Filip Hronek on being named to Team Czechia’s Olympic team.”
The Vancouver Canucks could’ve had three players representing Czechia at the Winter Games however an injury to centerman Filip Chytil, who hasn’t played since Sunday, October 19th in Washington, prevented that from happening.
Czechia will begin their quest for an Olympic medal on Thursday, February 12th as they take on the gold medal favourites, Canada, at 7:40 a.m. PT. The Czechs will also face France (February 13th) and Switzerland (February 15th) in the preliminary round.
