A National Hockey League insider has revealed the contract offer that was made by General Manager Patrik Allvin & the Vancouver Canucks to forward Kiefer Sherwood.

The Vancouver Canucks are entering a bit of a make or break period with pending unrestricted free agent Kiefer Sherwood and if they want to keep him around beyond the 2025-26 season, they’re going to need to step it up in contract talks with his camp.

“Last night, the Vancouver Canucks announced that they had re-signed Linus Karlsson to a two-year deal. The big name everybody in Vancouver is kind of talking about right now is Kiefer Sherwood, unrestricted free agent having a career year. The Canucks did make a new offer to Sherwood this week. I still think there’s a sizable gap here. I don’t have a timeline for when anything is going to occur in terms of a trade or anything like that, but both sides did talk this week. I still think, however, there’s a gap in where Sherwood would like to be and what the Canucks are willing to do. So let’s see where it takes us.” Friedman said.

During Tuesday’s edition of Donnie & Dhali, NHL insider Rick Dhaliwal spoke about the Vancouver Canucks’ decision to reengage with Kiefer Sherwood regarding a contract extension and also revealed what that offer looks like.

According to Dhaliwal, the Vancouver Canucks offered Sherwood a deal in the medium term range, either four or five years, with an average annual salary of about $4 million USD.

“Sounds like it was in the 4 mill per season range with medium term (4-5 years)” Dhaliwal said.

While it’s not necessarily a bad offer, it still feels like the Columbus, Ohio native is destined to be traded ahead of the league’s deadline on March 6th and ultimately, could get more than $4 million annually on the open market this summer, if he’s able to sustain his current level of play for the remainder of the season.
