On Wednesday morning, three more nations confirmed their rosters for the 2026 Olympics – Denmark, who are making just their appearance at the Winter Games, along with Germany and Switzerland.
“IT’S OFFICIAL, HE’S AN OLYMPIAN! 🤩
Congratulations to Lukas Reichel on being selected to Germany’s Olympic roster at Milano Cortina 2026!” the Abbotsford Canucks said.
Reichel, 23, had a tough start to his tenure with the Vancouver Canucks, putting up just one assist in 14 games before he was placed on waivers and eventually assigned to the American Hockey League’s Abbotsford Canucks.
Despite his struggles this season, the Nuremberg, Germany native is set to play a big role for his country next month and will likely be in a top-six that features Edmonton Oilers superstar Leon Draisaitl, Utah Mammoth forward JJ Peterka and Ottawa Senators forward Tim Stutzle.
Note: the following has been translated from German.
“Our task in squad planning was to define the roles within the Olympic team and, from our perspective, to fill them in the best possible way. We are convinced that with this squad we have now found the ideal composition for the Olympic Games. We are all very much looking forward to working together with this group and making the most of our time preparing in Bolzano and Milan for the start of the tournament.” German National Team Head Coach Harold Kreis said after the announcement of their 2026 Winter Olympic roster.
Lukas Reichel and Germany will open up their 2026 Winter Olympic schedule on Thursday, February 12th against Nikolaj Ehlers and Denmark at 12:10 p.m. PT.
Germany will also face former Vancouver Canucks goaltender Arturs Silovs and Latvia on February 14th at 3:10 a.m. PT before wrapping up the preliminary round on February 15th at 12:10 p.m. PT against Quinn Hughes and the United States.
