A new team has entered the mix for Vancouver Canucks pending unrestricted free agent forward Kiefer Sherwood with less than two months to go until the trade deadline.
In recent weeks, Kiefer Sherwood has been linked to the Boston Bruins, Dallas Stars, Detroit Red Wings, Montreal Canadiens, Ottawa Senators and the Tampa Bay Lightning, with more teams likely to enter the sweepstakes throughout January.
“I mean, I love it here. I want to do nothing more than bring energy and happiness to this fan base in this market. This is where, you know, some of my dreams have come true. And we have a lot of great teammates and great relationships that I’ve built here, and I’m just thankful that the staff is trusting me with opportunities that I was hoping for a couple years ago.” Kiefer Sherwood said recently about the trade rumors.

“They were in on star defenseman Quinn Hughes before he was traded to the Minnesota Wild last month, as The Athletic previously reported, and have been pushing hard for Vancouver Canucks winger Kiefer Sherwood, a league source said. The asking price is believed to be a first-round pick and possibly more for the 30-year-old who has netted 17 goals through 42 games and is in the final year of a modest contract that pays him $1.5 million annually.” Mercogliano said.
He added, “The acquisition cost is prohibitive for the Rangers, but team president Chris Drury’s focus has been on netting a top-nine forward to bolster an offense that ranks among the lowest-scoring in the NHL.”
With the New York Rangers sitting on the outside looking in when it comes to the playoff picture in the Eastern Conference, it’s hard to see them as a top suitor for Kiefer Sherwood but perhaps if the Canucks forward makes it to the open market on July 1st, General Manager Chris Drury would have a better chance at bringing him to The Big Apple.
