We once again have activity on the NHL waiver wire this Thursday, and it involves a name well known to Montreal Canadiens fans.

When that happens, Kent Hughes doesn’t need to call anyone. He just has to wait, look at the list, and then decide if it’s worth it.

In the last few hours, a name has officially appeared on the NHL waiver wire, and it’s the kind of move that can impact an organization without even making a trade.

The principle is simple. A team can lose a player for absolutely nothing, simply because it wants to shuffle pieces.

Dysin Mayo is ignored and a former Montreal Canadiens player is placed on NHL waivers today

Defenseman Dysin Mayo was selected in the fifth round, 133rd overall, of the 2014 NHL Draft. He is a player who truly sits on the fringe, bouncing between the NHL and the AHL.

In the same vein, the name Tyler Pitlick often comes up in these league-wide discussions, and Canadiens fans are well familiar with him. The forward previously played in Montreal after being selected 31st overall by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2010 NHL Draft.

In Montreal, we’ve seen more than once that “free” decisions can leave a lasting mark, and Pitlick’s situation will certainly be one to watch.

Pitlick has recorded 4 points in 5 games this season in the AHL, along with 46 points in 59 games last season.
