Carolina Hurricanes

The Carolina Hurricanes have activated defenceman Jaccob Slavin off injured reserve.

The 31-year-old has appeared in five games with the Hurricanes this season (recording zero points) while missing 39 games due to injury.

The Denver, Col. native has posted 55 goals and 299 points in 750 career NHL games with Carolina. He is the Hurricanes’ franchise record holder among defencemen in points, assists, shorthanded points (18), shorthanded goals (four), and overtime goals (three).

He also holds franchise records for postseason games played, goals, assists and points among defencemen.

A two-time winner of the NHL’s Lady Byng Memorial Trophy, Slavin has registered the most takeaways (704), shorthanded points, and sixth highest plus/minus (+165) of any NHL blue liner since the start of the 2015-16 season, while his 704 career takeaways rank second overall in the league over that span.

Florida Panthers

Florida Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk was seen at the team’s optional skate Saturday morning ahead of their matchup with the Ottawa Senators.

It remains unclear if Tkachuk will make his season debut Saturday night.

The 28-year-old returned to practice before the new year and has travelled with the team on their current six-game road trip with his return looming.

Tkachuk has not played this season after having surgery in August to repair a torn adductor and sports hernia.

In 52 games last season, the forward potted 22 goals and 57 points.
