The Washington Capitals will try to turn things around on Friday night in the Windy City, as Alex Ovechkin and company get set to visit the Chicago Blackhawks.

The Capitals entered the new season after a strong performance during the 2024-25 campaign. The team finished with the best record in the Eastern Conference, winning its first playoff series in seven years. However, Washington has not been quite as dominant this time around. Even with Team Canada goaltender Logan Thompson playing well and Ovechkin piling on the goals, Washington remains near the top of the Metropolitan Division.

The Caps enter Monday night sitting fourth in the Metro, five points out behind the first-place Carolina Hurricanes.

The Blackhawks looked like a rejuvenated franchise at the beginning of the season. However, a detrimental injury to Connor Bedard derailed the team’s momentum, as Chicago was pushed outside of a playoff spot. Yet, there is hope in Chi-Town, as the Hawks have won four straight games, with the team now sitting just three points back of the last Wild Card spot in the Western Conference.
