Former Vancouver Canucks forward J.T. Miller is drawing the ire of New York Rangers fans once again following a poor performance during Saturday’s loss to Boston.

It’s been nearly a year since the Vancouver Canucks traded J.T. Miller to the New York Rangers for a package that included Filip Chytil and Victor Mancini and it’s been a rough go in The Big Apple for the three-time 30 goal scorer.

“We’re pleased to announce J.T. Miller as the new captain of the New York Rangers. Since his arrival last season, J.T. immediately became a leader for our group and exemplifies how we want to conduct ourselves both on and off the ice. Congratulations to J.T. and his entire family on an incredibly meaningful achievement and we’re confident he will continue to represent our organization with class, commitment, and integrity.” Rangers GM Chris Drury said after naming J.T. Miller captain.

New York Rangers fans express frustration with J.T. Miller’s recent effort level

On Saturday afternoon, the New York Rangers were in Boston to take on the Bruins and in what was a solid start for the club after taking a 1-0 lead inside two minutes turned to one of their worst losses in the 21st century.

After the Rangers took that early 1-0 lead, the Boston Bruins would storm back with six unanswered goals and would take a 7-2 lead into the second intermission.

The Bruins didn’t stop there as they continued to pour it on in the final frame, scoring three more to take Saturday’s matinee over the New York Rangers by a score of 10-2, which happens to be the most goals scored in a game by Boston since 1988.

Despite scoring New York’s second of the game, J.T. Miller drew heavy criticism online for his effort on Boston’s ninth goal, as it appears he gave up on the play and skated back to the bench.

“Keep an eye on JT Miller at the blue line.

Completely giving up on the play, skating to the bench.

Gutless, shameful performance by the “no BS” captain. And it’s not the first time this season. Anyone remember the Vegas game?

Embarrassing!” @StatBoy_Steven said on X.

After the loss, J.T. Miller met with reporters where he expressed his frustration and as he’s said countless times throughout the 2025-26 season so far, that he needs to be better and it’s on the leadership group to step up.

“That’s as bad as it gets. I don’t know, man. The only thing that really matters now is this should sting, like this should suck. This should make you want to puke, and then respond tomorrow and the next day. The only thing that matters is a response.” Miller said.

He added, “That’s a game where you’re looking for leadership and I got to be better. It’s just unacceptable. Your leaders shouldn’t let games – and I’m talking about myself – get like that. Crowd should never be chanting ‘we want 10.’ Look within. Not try to point fingers and make excuses. It starts with myself and leadership to prevent games like that when you don’t have your best. To not get out of control and hang your goalies out to dry. There’s no point in bitching now. We’re going to let it soak and let it feel terrible inside of us. The only thing that matters is responding on Monday.”

In 37 games this season, Miller, who was named to the United States’ 2026 Olympic roster earlier this month, has registered 24 points (11 goals, 13 assists), 12 penalty minutes and is a minus-15.
