Vancouver Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko cannot seem to stay healthy, he has been placed on the IR again for the second time this season, after suffering a lower-body injury against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
“Prior to the start of the middle frame, it was announced on social media that Kevin Lankinen was replacing Thatcher Demko between the pipes for the remainder of the game for what everyone assumed was performance related.”-Jaxon
Thatcher Demko suffers yet another injury.
It’s starting to become clockwork at this point for Thatcher Demko and the Vancouver Canucks, the star goaltender has been highly injury prone the last few years, and even though it’s not entirely his fault, it is starting to affect his value. He can be the best goalie in the world but if he is getting hurt two, three times a season, nobody will want to keep him.
General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that G Thatcher Demko has been placed on IR (retroactive to Jan. 10).
The Canucks will now have to rely on Kevin Lankinen and Nikita Tolopilo to backstop the team. Tolopilo was pretty impressive during his time with the Canucks, and I would not be surprised to see him start more games than Lankinen, while Demko is out. Demko will be available to return in a week if he is fit to play. However the Canucks should start to consider if Demko is in their long term plans, because these injuries do not seem to be going away. They are better off looking to trade him once he returns, to avoid his value dropping anymore.
