Detroit Lakes, MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Wild earned a valuable point but fell short in a 4-3 overtime loss to the New York Islanders on Saturday night at Grand Casino Arena.
Simon Holmstrom netted the game-winner just 1:32 into the extra frame, spoiling what had been a spirited comeback effort by the Wild in front of their home crowd.
Despite the loss, Minnesota received offensive contributions from three key players. Ben Jones, Matt Boldy, and Kirill Kaprizov each found the back of the net in the losing effort, keeping the Wild competitive throughout the contest.
The overtime point keeps Minnesota firmly in the playoff picture, as they remain tied for second place in the Central Division with 61 points.
The Wild will look to bounce back quickly as they return to action tonight when they host the New Jersey Devils at Grand Casino Arena.
