Andersen is expected to go in this one, and he’s having by far the worst season of his career. His 3.35 GAA is way up from his 2.58career mark. He last started Thursday and stopped 11 of 13 shots in a 5-2 win over Anaheim. He was 2-0-0 with a 1.50 GAA and .941 SV% last season against Detroit.
Gibson has won 3 straight as well and stopped all 27 shots he saw against Montreal Saturday. He’s 3-1-0 with a 1.51 GAA and .949 SV% in 4 January starts. Carolina put 4 past him on 37 shots in the earlier matchup.
Hurricanes at Red Wings picks and predictionsPrediction
Hurricanes 3, Red Wings 2
The Canes allow the fewest shots on goal in the league at 24.3 per game, and they just got D-man Jaccob Slavin back. Detroit has the goalie and home-ice advantage, but you can’t score if you can’t reach the net. Watch this line to see if it comes down once Andersen is confirmed, but take HURRICANES (-145).
There’s no play here. PASS.
The Canes are 6-4 O/U in their last 10, and the Wings are 5-5. The Over is just 2-7-1 in the last 10 meetings, though. Due to the efficiency of each team’s offense of late, this could go either way. However, I LEAN UNDER 6 (-102).
