Nathan MacKinnon and Team Canada are currently in the middle of a big game in the World Championships against Team Sweden.
But on Monday, the Canadians lost their first game of the tournament against Finland, falling 2-1 in the shootout. And it was largely because of a strong performance from Juuse Saros in goal. Saros made 37 saves.
MacKinnon was interviewed after the game and grew frustrated with the line of questioning from a reporter. I can’t find the Finnish reporter’s name, who got MacKinnon 1-on-1 after Canada’s loss, but I do know that he probably has never done this before.
Not the job itself. But, specifically, talked to MacKinnon after a loss. Especially in a 1-on-1 setting.
According to this Finnish article, MacKinnon stormed out of the room at the end of the interview. The last question he was asked was a follow-up about the poor officiating.
“Horrible whistles. Both ways. We had the puck the whole game, but we only got one power play. So I don’t understand,” MacKinnon said.
“You must be from Finland or something.”
