Detroit Lakes , MN (KDLM) – The Minnesota Wild’s momentum came to a screeching halt Monday night as they fell 5-2 to the New Jersey Devils at Grand Casino Arena, surrendering four consecutive goals.
The Wild appeared to be in control through much of the opening frame and into the second period, with the game knotted at 1-1. However, the Devils broke through with a crucial go-ahead goal in the final seconds of the middle period, scoring with less than ten seconds remaining to take a 2-1 lead into the third.
From there, New Jersey pulled away, adding three more unanswered goals to seal the victory.
Marcus Foligno and Ryan Hartman provided the offense for Minnesota, each finding the back of the net, but it wasn’t nearly enough to overcome the Devils’ offensive surge.
The loss drops Minnesota’s record to 26-12-9 on the season.
The Wild will look to bounce back quickly when they return home to host the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
