GRAND COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) – A group of skiers and snowboarders is now safe after getting stuck in an avalanche at Rocky Mountain National Park, according to the Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC).
The center said that the avalanche occurred over the weekend in Haiyaha Couloir when a group of riders reported ski cutting the upper chute, which triggered the avalanche.
One of the skiers got caught in it. They said he was carried down and briefly buried under the snow.
CAIC said he also dislocated his shoulder while grabbing a tree.
A second rider was also caught as the group went to help the first skier.
According to CAIC, the group was able to safely exit the area.
The center confirmed that the avalanche was human-triggered.
