Philadelphia Flyers

Philly Hockey Now: According to a report, trading defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen is not off the table for the Philadelphia Flyers. So, we break down why a trade could make sense and what teams could be involved in the trade market.

The Flyers also played a game yesterday, and well, they’re probably going to want to forget it soon. For the second straight game, the Flyers were dominated on their home ice by the Tampa Bay Lightning, this time losing 5-1.

There was a lot of blame to go around—plenty of factors in the Flyers’ control that could have gone better. Things like officiating were beyond the Flyers’ control. Still, nothing was more cause for concern than one thing: the Flyers’ biggest stars went quiet once again. The team needs more from its stars.

NHL rumors & news

Let’s start with Twitter (x).

There have been plenty of concerns about the Olympic arena for the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics. Test events have been going on, and after a rough start, it looks like things have finally come around, putting much of the concern to rest.

TSN: Change in Columbus! Dean Evason is out, and Rick “Bones” Bowness is in. The Blue Jackets are currently tied for the bottom spot in the East, but are a few wins (in a row) away from being right back in the mix (yes, that’s how tight the East is). Can the big coaching change spark a run?

SportsNet: The Canadian Olympic team is holding its breath. Following his power-play goal in last night’s game, Brayden Point had to be helped off the ice, holding his knee, after getting tangled up with Cam York in front of the net. Jon Cooper did not have an update after the game.

Detroit Hockey Now: Sergei Federov’s No. 91 is in the rafters! Could you have made it a better night? Some may say Federov’s number should have been retired long ago, but for Federov and his family, now was the ideal time.

New Jersey Devils: It’s time for our daily dose of Devils news. They won a game! James Nichols dissects New Jersey’s latest win.
