It seems the Pittsburgh Penguins’ recall of prospect Tristan Broz was simply an insurance policy against Bryan Rust’s availability.

One day after recalling Broz, the Penguins returned the rookie center to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

Broz was a healthy scratch on Tuesday as Rust was able to play in the Penguins’ 2-1 shootout loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Tuesday morning, Penguins coach Dan Muse said Broz was “playing well” in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, and the move was to add available options at center if needed.

This season, Broz, 23, has 24 points (11-13-24) in 33 AHL games.
