The Montreal Canadiens have signed forward Alexandre Texier to a two-year, $5 million extension, it was announced Wednesday.

The 26-year-old forward signed with the Habs on a one-year, $1 million deal after being released by the St. Louis Blues in November. His new deal begins next season and takes him through 2027-28.

He has seven goals and 16 points in 25 games since joining the Canadiens after starting the year with just one assist in eight games with St. Louis.

Texier is a seven-year NHL veteran, having spent the first five seasons of his career with the Columbus Blue Jackets. He joined the Blues ahead of last season.

A native of St. Martin D’heres, France, Texier has 47 goals and 107 points in 265 career NHL regular-season games.

The Canadiens enter play Wednesday 26-14-7 with 59 points in 47 games, good for third in the Atlantic Division.
