The Spartans come into this series in need of at least one win to keep up with the Badgers and rival Michigan for the Big Ten regular season title. Michigan State holds an overall record of 15-5-0 and 6-4-0 in Big Ten play, but are four points behind Wisconsin and eight points behind Michigan in the Big Ten standings.

Wisconsin enters this series with an overall record of 15-3-2 and a conference record of 8-2-0. The Badgers swept the Spartans earlier this year in a two-game series at Munn Ice Arena.
