The Vancouver Canucks have reportedly rejected a recent trade offer for pending UFA forward Kiefer Sherwood, with less than two months to go until the deadline.

Since arriving in Vancouver in the summer of 2024, Sherwood has surprised many, especially after he set new career-highs in goals (19), assists (21) and points (40), as well as smashing the National Hockey League’s single-season record for most hits with 462.

However, as the Vancouver Canucks as the Vancouver Canucks transition into a rebuild, they’re listening to offers on almost all their players and with close to 20 teams in the mix for Kiefer Sherwood, all signs point to him being on the move in the coming weeks.

Vancouver Canucks reportedly rejected recent trade offer for Kiefer Sherwood

So far, the Canucks haven’t gotten that first round pick they covet, with teams reportedly offering them a second round pick and a “pretty good” prospect for the 30-year-old winger, which Chris Johnston says they’ve rejected.

“I know they have received offers of a second-round pick and a pretty good prospect for him, and didn’t take it. So, that tells you where the offer has to go to get it done.” Johnston said.

He went on to add, “I mean, it’s probably a first-round pick and a prospect or something like that. Now, probably, as always, these things depend on the prospect.”

While we can appreciate that the Vancouver Canucks want that first round pick for Kiefer Sherwood, it’s safe to say they should have moved him weeks ago, before he got hurt and when his value was at its highest.

Now there’s no reason to panic as the Vancouver Canucks are going to have no issues trading Kiefer Sherwood, despite his injury, but the return is going to be very interesting to keep an eye on and Patrik Allvin might need to settle for a second round pick and a “pretty good” prospect, but we’ll have to wait and see what develops in the weeks to come.
