We have some sad news involving a former Montreal Canadiens player.

Corey Perry has stepped away from the Los Angeles Kings organization for personal reasons. The information circulating points to a health issue within his family.

“The Kings will be without forward Corey Perry tonight, unfortunately had to return home to attend to an illness in the family.”

– Zach Dooley

The Kings will therefore have to manage without him, and it always seems to happen at the worst possible time, when the schedule offers no relief.

In Montreal, his name leaves no one indifferent. Perry wore the Montreal Canadiens jersey and left his mark on the team in his own way.

Even when he plays elsewhere, he remains a former member of the Habs that everyone still loves.

Sad announcement from Corey Perry

What makes his situation even more notable is that he continues to produce at a fairly incredible pace.

In 2024-25 with the Edmonton Oilers, he played 81 games and recorded 30 points. In the playoffs that same year, he added 14 points in 22 games.

And for Canadiens fans, there is also the memory of 2020-21. With Montreal, he collected 21 points in 49 regular-season games.

In the playoffs, he filled the scoresheet with 10 points in 22 games, during a run that brought the Canadiens back to the Stanley Cup Final.

It was a long time ago, but it remains etched in memory. In a market like Montreal, people quickly read between the lines when a player steps away for personal reasons.

The first thing is to hope that everything works out for him and his family, period.

Hockey always comes second.

The Kings will have to adjust, and Perry will return only when it’s possible.

We sincerely wish him all the best.
