Another member of the crowded Detroit Red Wings goalie room has determined the next step in his hockey career. Michal Pradel will be attending Colorado College in the fall.

Pradel’s commitment to the Tigers was announced on Wednesday.

Pradel recently returned to action with the Tri-City Storm of the USHL after playing for Slovakia in the IIHF World Junior Championship. The Red Wings made the 6-foot-5, 198-pound netminder the 75th overall pick of the 2025 NHL entry draft.

“I like Tri-City so much,” Pradel said. It’s his second season with the USHL club. He believes that making the move to play North American hockey at a younger age will only benefit his bid to make it to the NHL.

“I think it helps every player to develop here in the many great leagues, like the USHL and CHL,” Pradel said. “So I think it’s good for young players from Europe, where the league isn’t, like, as good as here.”

Red Wings Deep In Goaltending Prospects

Pradel is among several quality puckstoppers in the Red Wings’ development path. Sebastian Cossa, a 2021 first-round draft pick (15th overall), is enjoying an all-star caliber campaign for the AHL Grand Rapids Griffins. Just back from an injury, free-agent addition Michal Postava is also displaying potential with the Griffins in his first North American pro season.

Carter Gylander (191st, 2016) has played solidly for both the Griffins and the ECHL Toledo Walleye this season. Still in the amateur ranks, Trey Augustine (41st, 2023) is a junior with the No. 3-ranked Michigan State Spartans. Rudy Guimond (159th, 2023) is playing spectacularly in the QMJHL for the Moncton Wildcats.

Like Pradel, Guimond will also be playing NCAA hockey in the fall. He’s committed to Harvard.

“My strengths are my size and my positioning,” Pradel said. As a big goalie, Pradel has sought to study the games of NHL puckstoppers of a similar stature.

“Yeah, so growing up it was (Nashville’s) Pekka Rinne, but now I’m trying to be more watching the big guys like (Toronto’s) Anthony Stolarz, (Winnipeg’s) Connor Hellebuyck, and these guys.”
