The Chicago Blackhawks (19-20-7) continue their four-game homestand and go for the season sweep against the Calgary Flames (19-23-4) at the United Center on Thursday.

It’s the third and final meeting of the 2025-26 season between the two teams, with the Blackhawks winning both matchups so far. In the first game on Nov. 7 in Calgary, Connor Bedard recorded four points (1G, 3A), while Tyler Bertuzzi (2G) and Andre Burakovsky (1G, 1A) each had a multi-point effort. Spencer Knight stopped all 33 shots faced to record his first shutout as a member of the Blackhawks in a 4-0 win.

Then, in the second meeting in Chicago on Nov. 18, Bedard had another marvelous showing, as he potted his second NHL hat trick to lead the Blackhawks to a 5-2 victory. Oliver Moore and Ryan Donato were the other two goal scorers in the game. Arvid Soderblom stopped 19 of 21 shots against to earn the win in net. Matt Coronato (PP) and Rasmus Andersson were the goal scorers for the Flames.

Last time out, the Blackhawks fell to the Edmonton Oilers 4-1 at the United Center for their second loss of the New Year. Edmonton jumped out to a 2-0 advantage with goals from Zach Hyman and Evan Bouchard, and the Hawks could never climb their way back. Bertuzzi was the lone goal scorer of the game for Chicago. Knight stopped 33 of 36 shots faced in net. The Blackhawks are now 5-2-0 in seven games during 2026.

The Flames are coming off a 5-3 road loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday and have a measly 1-5-0 record in six games since the start of the New Year. All three of Calgary’s goals scored against Columbus came via the power play, with tallies from Morgan Frost, Andersson, and Mikael Backlund. Boone Jenner scored the game-winning goal for Columbus with just 1:34 remaining in the third period.

Calgary currently has the third-fewest points in the NHL, with just 42 through their opening 46 games. The Winnipeg Jets (41 points), who come to Chicago for a Central Division matchup on Monday, and the Vancouver Canucks (37 points) are the only teams in the league with fewer points than the Flames.

Here’s everything to note before the puck drops at 7:30 p.m. CT in Chicago.

Blackhawks Regular Season Notes (Last Five Games)

It was the Tyler Bertuzzi Show on Sunday, as he carried the Blackhawks to their third consecutive win with a hat trick. Bertuzzi scored all three goals, including the overtime winner, to overcome a late deficit and beat the Vegas Golden Knights 3-2.

What a complete team win! Seven different players scored a goal, and 13 recorded a point in a 7-3 beatdown over the St. Louis Blues. Both special teams units were also spectacular as the Blackhawks’ winning streak reached four games.

Connor Bedard was back, but the Blackhawks were still stretched remarkably thin against the Washington Capitals. An illness/flu bug swept through the locker room, leaving several players unavailable. Chicago couldn’t extend the winning streak and fell 5-1 to the Capitals for their first loss of 2026.

Without Spencer Knight and Arvid Soderblom, Drew Commesso filled in for the second time in as many nights and had a career performance. Commesso stopped all 36 shots faced for his first NHL shutout, which moved the Blackhawks to 5-1-1 in 2026 after a 3-0 win over the Nashville Predators.

Just when it seemed like the Blackhawks were getting back to full health, Connor Bedard was the latest player to fall victim to the illness that’s been going around the team. Bedard was a late scratch and missed the matchup with Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers, which ended with a 4-1 loss for Chicago.

Connor Bedard returned to practice on Wednesday after missing Monday’s game against the Oilers due to an illness. Bedard skated on the top line with Ryan Greene and Andre Burakovsky during the morning skate. In six career games against Calgary, Bedard has recorded 12 points (6G, 6A), including a hat trick back on Nov. 18, the last time these two teams met.

Teuvo Teravainen, who suffered an upper-body injury in Monday’s loss to Edmonton, was already ruled out by head coach Jeff Blashill following Wednesday’s practice. There’s still a chance that Teravainen returns for Chicago on Saturday for a meeting with the Boston Bruins.

With Teravainen out, Ryan Donato will skate alongside rookies Oliver Moore and Nick Lardis on the third line.
