For the second time this season, the Chicago Blackhawks welcome the Calgary Flames to the United Center.
Just when things were looking up, the flu bug struck again. On Monday, the Chicago Blackhawks fell to the Edmonton Oilers at home. That said, the team just got Connor Bedard back in the last week, but the star was unavailable in the 4-1 loss thanks to the aforementioned flu.
The two positives? Tyler Bertuzzi netted his 24th goal of the season and the Hawks welcome the Calgary Flames to the United Center looking to wash away Monday’s loss.
Chicago Blackhawks vs Calgary Flames Preview
The Calgary Flames and Chicago Blackhawks have already squared off at the United Center this season. Last time out, Connor Bedard netted his second NHL hat trick en route to a 5-2 Blackhawks victory. The Blackhawks will look to find that same success this time around against the Flames.
The Flames are a vastly improved team since the last time out, but still below the Blackhawks in the standings. A cast of Nazem Kadri, Michael Backlund, and Rasmus Andersson pace the team in scoring, but valuable contributions from Matt Coronato, Morgan Frost, Blake Coleman, and Jonathan Huberdeau give the Flames a respectable lineup. That said, the Flames are still expected to be a seller at the trade deadline in March, with Andersson as their prized trade chip.
As for Chicago, Bedard’s return has been huge. Although still awaiting Frank Nazar’s return to the lineup, Oliver Moore has blossomed in his absence. The Blackhawks have also found huge scoring contributions from Bertuzzi and Andre Burakovsky. Aside from them, other young players have flourished, so Bedard’s absence puts wind back in the team’s potential playoff sails.
