An NHL insider has revealed what the New York Rangers offered to the Vancouver Canucks recently for pending unrestricted free agent forward Kiefer Sherwood.

As we inch closer to the National Hockey League’s Olympic roster freeze, trade talks are beginning to intensify for the Vancouver Canucks, who have several players available on the market at the moment as the club begins their transition into a rebuilding period.Among those on Vancouver’s roster that is garnering the most interest garnering the most interest is forward Kiefer Sherwood, with reports indicating that upwards of 20 teams have entered the mix for the Canucks’ leading goal scorer and NHL’s single-season hits record holder.

The amount of interest in Kiefer Sherwood shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone, he’s exactly the type of player teams need in the Stanley Cup Playoffs and it basically a foregone conclusion that he’ll be moved by Patrik Allvin well in advance of the March 6th trade deadline.

NHL insider reveals New York Rangers’ offer to Vancouver Canucks for Kiefer Sherwood

Earlier this month, Vince Z. Mercogliano of The Athletic revealed that the New York Rangers were one of the teams interest in Kiefer Sherwood, despite the hefty asking price of a first round pick.

“They were in on star defenseman Quinn Hughes before he was traded to the Minnesota Wild last month, as The Athletic previously reported, and have been pushing hard for Vancouver Canucks winger Kiefer Sherwood, a league source said.” Mercogliano said.

Flash forward to Thursday and it looks like the Rangers have made an official offer to the Vancouver Canucks for Kiefer Sherwood, according to TSN’s Chris Johnston.

“But I think an interesting point comes out of those discussions that were had with Vancouver and New York.

What the Rangers put on the table, I’m told, for trying to get Sherwood out of Vancouver was a young player with pedigree and a second-round pick.

That wasn’t good enough to get it done recently. I think that tells us a lot about how Vancouver views the guy that it’s likely going to be having the easiest time to move.” Johnston said.

Unless an extension was part of the deal, which appears unlikely, it doesn’t make a lot of sense for the New York Rangers to be in the buyers market at the moment, especially with the club sitting dead last in the Eastern Conference and are ten points back of the Boston Bruins for the final Wild Card spot.
