The Vancouver Canucks have finally received some positive news on the injury front regarding a pair of forwards after the team wrapped up a dreadful six-game road trip.
Unfortunately for Adam Foote, who is in his first year as the team’s Head Coach, he hasn’t had all of his NHLers available for a game yet due to injuries at various points of the season, which is crazy to think about given we’re already in the middle of January.
Thankfully for Foote and his coaching staff, it appears that some relief is on the way and the club will be getting a couple of big boosts to their forward group ahead of the National Hockey League’s Olympic break.
Vancouver Canucks finally receive positive news on the injury front
When speaking with reporters after their road trip finale in Columbus on Thursday, Adam Foote gave injury updates on several players including Teddy Blueger and Filip Chytil, who haven’t played since mid-October.
According to Adam Foote, Teddy Blueger might return to the lineup for their game on Monday night against the New York Islanders, and as for Filip Chytil, who shed his non-contact sweater recently, he’s trending towards a return next week, potentially against either the Washington Capitals on January 21st or New Jersey Devils on January 23rd.
“#Canucks head coach Adam Foote said post-game that they might get Blueger back on Monday and Chytil back next week.” Adam Kierszenblat of The Hockey News said on X.
Even though the Canucks have fully embraced their plans to rebuild, getting Teddy Blueger and Filip Chytil back in the lineup is going to be a big moral boost for the group, something they need desperately amid their nine-game losing streak, which they’ll look to snap tomorrow against the Edmonton Oilers.
For Teddy Blueger, who’s heading to the Olympics next month with Latvia, the next few weeks are going to be crucial to build up his trade value so the team can move the pending unrestricted free agent prior to the deadline on Friday, March 6th.
Meanwhile for Filip Chytil, it’s great to see him close to a return after suffering yet another concussion following a hit from Tom Wilson in October and with the injury to Marco Rossi, who might not be back until closer to the Olympic break, the Czech forward might slot back into that 2C role he earned at the start of the season.
