The Pittsburgh Penguins laid to rest their three-game winless streak Thursday with a complete victory over the Philadelphia Flyers. Almost fittingly, it was not the best game they played in the last three, and it might have been the worst of the three, but few teams in the league can lay claim to as many losses in which they deserved better and as many wins in which they deserved worse.

It has indeed been an interesting season for the Penguins, who are now deep enough into the season that any talk of a high draft pick is over. No, they have come this far, too far to turn back, and the playoffs can be the only outcome that defines a successful season.

The Penguins have the third-best winning percentage in the Metro and seventh-best in the East.

But the weekly Insider column is about the locker room, the vibes, the issues, and what the players are saying. Is there a spot for Rutger McGroarty when he is healthy? Another rookie is showing some struggles with a silver lining, but where are the rest? And Stuart Skinner had some big praise for the team, as the big goalie seems to be finding a home.
