Temperatures will moderate some on Saturday before arctic air invades again for next week.

On Saturday, we could have some snow showers around at times. The snow will not add up to much, but a coating to an inch or two will be possible.

Temperatures on Saturday will reach the mid-30s for most of Western New York.

Heading into Sunday we could see some lake-effect snow start to develop off Lake Erie. We will be watching this closely to see if it could lead to heavier accumulating snow Sunday night into Monday.

Temperatures on Sunday will be turning colder. Highs will be dropping into the 20s on the backside of the weekend.

We will continue to watch for pockets and periods of heavier lake-effect snow into Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Temperatures will only reach the lower 20s for Monday afternoon.

The coldest day next week will be Tuesday. This is when highs will only reach the low to mid-10s.

1. Emergency demolition requested after four-alarm fire destroys Emslie Street building

Buffalo Fire Commissioner Daniel Pizarro says crews were called to the scene around 11:09 p.m. Upon arrival, they witnessed heavy fire conditions spreading on the first and second floors of the school building of the former St. Ann’s Church. He says crews made an attempt to save the building through an interior attack, but had to retreat for the sake of the firefighters’ safety.

2. City of Buffalo launches snow plow tracker

The free-to-use tracker documents nearly every street in the city, including side streets, and shows whether they were plowed in the last six hours or if they haven’t been plowed in more than a day.

3. Bills activate defensive tackle Oliver, receiver Samuel from injured reserve

The Buffalo Bills on Friday announced they have activated defensive tackle Ed Oliver and wide receiver Curtis Samuel from injured reserve ahead of this weekend’s AFC Divisional Round matchup against the Denver Broncos.

5. Advocates concerned as many ignition interlocks not being installed post-DWI

Keeping drunk drivers off the road is the reason people convicted of driving while intoxicated are required to install ignition interlock devices, but installation rates are low.

6. Ex-correction officer pleads guilty to reckless endangerment in death of inmate Robert Brooks

Michael Fisher, the former correction officer charged with second-degree manslaughter in the death of inmate Robert Brooks, pleaded guilty Friday to second-degree reckless endangerment in Oneida County Court. Sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 30, when Fisher could receive a six-month sentence, pending an appeal. Fisher had faced up to 15 years in state prison on the manslaughter charge.
