WINDHAM, Maine — A new documentary titled “The Swede of Philadelphia” is set to release this November, chronicling the short yet impactful life of former Maine Mariners and Philadelphia Flyers star goalie Pelle Lindbergh.
Lindbergh, who played with the Mariners from 1980 to 1982, secured 48 victories over those two seasons. His exceptional skills on the ice earned him the Vezina Trophy as the league’s top goalie during the Flyers’ 1984 season, leading the team to the Stanley Cup Finals against Edmonton.
Tragically, in November 1985, Lindbergh died at the age of 26 in a drunk driving accident.
The documentary’s director, a passionate hockey fan, recently gathered with several former Maine Mariners staff members at the Lake House Tavern in Windham to discuss Lindbergh’s life, which was cut far too short.
