Scamurra is the daughter of former Capitals defenseman Peter Scamurra, who played for the team from 1975-1980.
“There’s so much history there,” Hayley Scamurra said. “It’s how he and my mom met, too, when he played for the Capitals. So, I think to be able to go to where he started his pro career and getting to continue mine and grow the women’s game in the same area is pretty cool.”
Sunday’s game was a hit in DC, setting a new record for U.S. women’s hockey with 17,288 fans in attendance.
The Sirens also represented the local NHL team, rocking Capitals jerseys for their arrivals to the arena.
