An NHL insider has given a big update on Monday regarding the odds of forward Elias Pettersson being traded by the Vancouver Canucks before the deadline in March.

“We are transitioning into a rebuild here, acquiring younger players through the draft. Obviously, the draft is really important for us. Since Jim and I got [here] three years ago, we’ve definitely always emphasized on getting younger.” Allvin said recently.

The Vancouver Canucks have made it known that they are willing to listen to offers on anyone, including Swedish forward Elias Pettersson, who is on pace to finish the season with more goals and points than he did during the 2024-25 campaign.

An Elias Pettersson trade would be tricky to complete, mainly due to his contract and the financial commitment it comes with until the summer of 2032 when he’s eligible to become an unrestricted free agent.

However that hasn’t scared away teams and according to NHL insider Frank Seravalli, speculation is growing that the Sundsvall, Sweden native will be traded by the Vancouver Canucks before the March 6th deadline.

“There’s a growing suspicion around the league that we will. I can just tell you from the volume of calls and the interest that the Vancouver Canucks have fielded that it feels like it’s trending in that direction and that he’s gaining some traction on the trade market.” Seravalli said on Monday’s edition of Frankly Hockey.

Trading Elias Pettersson will come at a very high cost to any team looking to acquire the 27-year-old centerman, with David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period reporting that the Vancouver Canucks could get a package featuring a top-two centerman, a first round pick and “another big asset”.

“Re Elias Pettersson: I would expect three quality pieces here coming back, a 1st round pick, a top 2 center; and then another big asset, that’s kind of what you’re probably looking at; it’s gonna be a hefty price.” Pagnotta said during an appearance on Inside Sports.

Among the teams that have been linked to Elias Pettersson recently include the Carolina Hurricanes, Detroit Red Wings and the Los Angeles Kings.
