Maple Leafs star winger William Nylander has officially confirmed a significant decision following his team’s disappointing Game 7 loss to the Panthers.

The dust has barely settled for the Maple Leafs after cleaning out their lockers on Tuesday, following a disappointing and deflating defeat at the hands of the Florida Panthers in Game 7 on Sunday.

The future for another key member of the Leafs’ core — William Nylander — is far more certain, as he has just completed the first year of his 8-year extension, which was worth a staggering $92M over the course of the deal. Nylander was worth every penny of his $11.5M cap hit this season, posting a career high in goals with 45, sitting 2nd behind only Leon Draisaitl (52) in that category.

Despite so little time having passed since his team was eliminated, it didn’t take Nylander long to commit to a big decision for his immediate future, though.

According to Team Sweden, as highlighted in a report from NHL Insider Chris Johnston, William Nylander has opted to travel straight to Stockholm, Sweden to join Tre Kronor for the 2025 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship tournament. Nylander is expected to participate in tomorrow’s matchup against Czechia.

Nylander almost always joins Sweden at the tournament when his playoff run in Toronto comes to an end, so the decision isn’t exactly a shocking one. However, to know that Nylander is still fired up to play hockey after such a disappointing exit shows where his priorities are — getting better for next season and starting his preparations straight away.

Best of luck to Nylander in the tournament, which is taking place in Sweden and Denmark.
