The New Jersey Devils (25-22-2) and Edmonton Oilers (25-17-8) meet Tuesday at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta. Puck drop is scheduled for 10 p.m. ET (TNT / HBOMax / truTV). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Devils vs. Oilers and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.
Season series: Devils lead 1-0
New Jersey picked up a 5-3 victory as slight underdogs (-105) at home on Oct. 18 in their first meeting this season as the Over (6.5) cashed. The Devils have won 3 in a row in the series and are 5-2 in the past 7 meetings. The Over has a slight 4-3-2 edge in the past 9 installments since Dec. 31, 2021, also.
The Devils opened a 4-game road trip with a 2-1 overtime victory in Calgary on Monday night behind G Jacob Markstrom. D Simon Nemec notched the game-winning goal in Calgary, while Markstrom make 21 saves on 22 shots. F Dawson Mercer scored in regulation, with a helper from D Dougie Hamilton as New Jersey covered as a -125 favorite and the Under (6) cashing.
The Oilers posted a 5-0 win Sunday against the visiting St. Louis Blues, as G Connor Ingram turned aside 27 shots and C Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored a power-play goal to open the scoring, which turned out to be the game-winning tally in his 1,000th NHL game. On Saturday, Edmonton won 6-0 at Vancouver behind G Tristan Jarry, who stopped 31 shots. It was a weird game, too, as the Oilers scored all 6 goals in the second period, with Fs Kasperi Kapanen and Jack Roslovic each scoring 2 goals. Edmonton covered both as a heavy favorite and the Under (6.5 in both) cashed each time.

Jake Allen (11-11-1, 2.68 GAA, .906, SV%, 1 SO) vs. Tristan Jarry (13-3-2, 2.64 GAA, .909 SV%, 2 SO)
Allen is expected to start after Markstrom started Monday’s game. Allen has had issues lately, going 0-3-0 with a 3.80 GAA and .875 SV% in 3 starts in January. His last win came on New Year’s Eve in Columbus, Ohio, when he stopped 33 shots. in a 3-2 win over the Blue Jackets.
Jarry has made two starts since returning from a lower-body injury. Last time out, he had his finest start since coming over from the Pittsburgh Penguins in a trade with his 31-save showing in Saturday’s blowout of the Canucks. Tuesday would be his first start in Edmonton since the trade.
Devils at Oilers picks and predictionsPrediction
Oilers 4, Devils 1
The OILERS (-180) are worth a look as a solid favorite on home ice. Proceed with caution, though, as Edmonton has lot 3 in a row against New Jersey.
However, the Oilers are playing great and steam in with 2 consecutive shutouts. On the flip side, the Devils are 3-5-0 in 8 games playing on no rest, and 2 of those victories are against the Minnesota Wild.
The OILERS -1.5 (+135) are worth a play on the puck line. Take advantage of the fact the Devils are coming in on no rest. Sure, it isn’t a far distance to travel from Calgary to Edmonton, but it’s still a tough turnaround — especially after going to overtime less than 24 hours earlier.
In the Oiler’s 3 most recent wins dating Jan. 12, they won each by 3 or more goals. In fact, Edmonton has won by 2 or more goal in 6 of its past 7 victories since Dec. 23.
UNDER 6 (+100) is the lean, but go with a half-unit play at most.
Lean to the Under since the Oilers have recorded shutouts in back-to-back games. The Under is 3-0 in past 3 games and 4-1 in the previous 5 outings for Edmonton.
The Under has cashed in 3 straight games for New Jersey, as well, and 8 of the past 11 outings. The Under is 28-20 across all Devils games this season. In this series, the Under is 2-1 since Nov. 4, 2024.
