PIERRE, S.D. (Dakota News Now) -Pierre’s Carter Sanderson was just in Sioux Falls with his Muskegon Lumberjacks of the USHL… His next step will be the Fighting Hawks of North Dakota with the ultimate goal of making the NHL after being drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins.
He’s the first South Dakota native to be selected in the NHL Draft, which will always be a source of pride for Carter and his family.
Nathan Sanderson, Carter’s Dad says, “It’s tremendously gratifying to see a kid who came from small town South Dakota, take advantage of the opportunities that have been presented to him. And of course there’s part of it as a parent where he’s got a lot left to go right. He doesn’t play for the Pittsburgh Penguins yet. He doesn’t play for the North Dakota Fighting Sioux yet. And so it’s an interesting thing to see him progress along his journey and I’m trying to appreciate it while it’s happening.”
Carter, who scored a goal for us while he was here, is big and strong but also very talented with the puck which made him so attractive to the NHL scouts.
I’ll have more on Carter next Monday when he’s our Karl’s TV & Appliance Athlete of the Week.
