The Vancouver Canucks have been urged to move on from a blueliner nearly one year after they acquired him via trade and signed him to a long-term contract extension.
“We may end up saying no to offers, certainly, but we’re not going to say no to having conversations about any player. This is about improving this team without taking shortcuts.” Rutherford said.

During a recent edition of Sekeres and Price, the duo talks about the team’s rebuilding plans and who could potentially be moved out in the lead up to March 6th.
One player that they suggested as someone that Patrik Allvin should trade is veteran defenseman Marcus Pettersson, who they acquired in late January 2025 from the Pittsburgh Penguins and less than a week later, signed him to a six-year deal worth $5.5 million annually.
“They need to trade Marcus Pettersson if they can and I think you need to hope that teams recognize and maybe you even tell the teams that this guy’s shattered, he left the Penguins team that he quite comfortable in, he thought of greener pastures were here in Vancouver and the opposite has occurred. Penguins are doing just fine and the Canucks suck and he signs a long-term extension, he realizes ‘I’ve signed onto the team for pretty much the duration of a rebuild’.” Blake Price said.
Pettersson has struggled at both ends of the ice this season and it might not be easy finding a landing spot for the Skelleftea, Sweden native, but it’s something that Patrik Allvin should absolutely explore over the next 45 days and hopefully, they can recoup a decent asset or two after giving up a first rounder for him last January.
