Rasmus Andersson had plenty of suitors for his services for over a year. The Vegas Golden Knights were one of those teams, along with other teams like the Dallas Stars, the Boston Bruins, and even the Detroit Red Wings. Fans kept a close eye on the Swede as everyone was wondering what would happen.

Well, Kelly McCrimmon worked his magic and got Andersson to Las Vegas. Boston was the proverbial frontrunner, but couldn’t get the extension done. In turn, the general manager slid into the ol’ DM’s and got his guy (Nicolas Hague not included in the deal).

Ironically, that’s who the Golden Knights will face on Thursday. They’ll head to Massachusetts—i.e. Jack Eichel and Noah Hanifin’s home state—for the start of a grueling four-game East Coast swing. The opponent? The Boston Bruins and they are looking to break through in the Eastern Conference race.

Oh, how life can be funny sometimes.

That’s especially true if the defenseman makes his debut on Thursday. It’d be even funnier if he were on the power play and tortured the Bruins. It’d be akin to the deliciously cruel irony that’s experienced when you’re a vegan and you finally decide to try KFC. So, how can Rasmus Andersson do the funniest thing ever on Thursday?

Rasmus Andersson can dominate on the power play for the Vegas Golden Knights on the road trip, starting with the Boston Bruins

Entering Wednesday, two teams on the Golden Knights’ road trip are in the top five in penalty minutes. The Boston Bruins have the most (671), while the Montreal Canadiens have the fourth-most (533). Obviously, this leaves an opportunity for the league’s fourth-best power play (26.5%) to feast.

While Monday’s performance was as inspiring as an oblivious person’s boring speech, Vegas can’t be deterred by a one-for-seven performance. Instead, they must rely on the defenseman’s talents, should he be inserted into the special teams unit. He has a penchant for finding scoring opportunities and setting up his teammates for key goals.

This season, Andersson has four goals and six assists on the power play. Historically, he’s been strong on the unit, scoring 11 goals and 68 assists in his career on the power play. But those four goals are a career-high for the Swedish Olympian, making him a threat on this trip.

The Bruins won’t be the only team that Andersson can feast on during the four-game road trip

Should Andersson make his Golden Knights debut on Thursday against the Bruins, he has a golden cow that he can milk for all its money. Boston has one of the league’s lesser penalty kills, ranking 18th at 78.9% (tied with the Detroit Red Wings).

In fact, the Toronto Maple Leafs are the only team on the road trip with a top-five penalty kill (tied for fourth in the NHL with a percentage of 83.1%). The Montreal Canadiens rank 20th in the NHL at 78.1%, while the Ottawa Senators are dead-last (71.5%). That could give the defenseman the perfect springboard to launch his Golden Knights career if he gets the opportunity on special teams.

Currently, fans don’t know what the status is on Andersson, other than he’ll be a big addition for the Golden Knights. But one thing’s certain. If he gets the opportunity to rub it in every Bostonian’s face, it’ll be as savory as the clam chowdah on da menu or the Yankees beating the Red Sox.
