Patrick Allvin made another big step in the Vancouver Canucks rebuild today, trading Kiefer Sherwood, but they still aren’t done, and Filip Hronek could easily be the next player traded.
“In a recent article for The Province, Patrick Johnston spoke about the Ottawa Senators’ need for a right-shot defenseman and mentioned that they could be a fit for defenseman Filip Hronek, with one source telling him that he could see the Vancouver Canucks trading the Czech blueliner.”-Jaxon
Filip Hronek could have a new home sooner rather than later.
Dave Jenkins of NHL Trade Rumour reported on Hronek’s trade rumours intensifying, Hronek is probably more focused on the Olympics happening in only a few weeks, but he could be getting dealt before they start. His most likely destination is the Ottawa Senators.
“It makes perfect sense on paper. Right-shot defensemen who can eat top-pairing minutes are the «unicorns» of the NHL. Friedman noted that Hronek is viewed as low-maintenance and highly competitive-exactly the type of player a team like the Ottawa Senators, who are desperate for blue-line help, would mortgage the future for.”-Jenkins
Hronek has a no-move clause however, so if he is to get deal anywhere he needs to give the team permission.
It doesn’t appear he wants to leave, but continuous poor results from the team can change his mind quickly. Hronek would be valuable on most teams, as previously mentioned right hand shot defensemen are in a shortage right now, especially ones as effective as Hronek.
The Canucks could get a very good return for him, even if they might have to retain some of his cap.
