An NHL insider has gave an update on Wednesday about the injury sustained earlier in the month by Vancouver Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko.
“Thatcher Demko left Saturday’s game against the Maple Leafs with a lower-body injury, says Adam Foote.
He’ll be reevaluated over the next few days.” Thomas Drance of The Athletic said back on January 10th.
“Well he’s still getting further evaluated here and some testing and once we have more information, I will give you guys more updates, but I don’t have an update on his status here as of today.” Allvin said.
When asked if surgery is going to be an option for Demko, Allvin added, “I think they’re going through, you know, taking opinions from other resources around the world to see where his status is and what needs to be done or not. So, I’m sure we’ll know more here hopefully by the end of the week.”
NHL insider gives update on injury sustained by Vancouver Canucks’ Thatcher Demko
On Wednesday’s edition of Donnie & Dhali, NHL insider Rick Dhaliwal spoke about what he’s hearing regarding Thatcher Demko’s injury and revealed some big news – they’re close to figuring out the underlying issue that has caused all of his injuries in recent years.
“It looks like they are closing in on the underlying problem that has caused his issues over the last 2 or 3 years. Shutting him down for the rest of the season is on the table, but why would you play him Don? They’re going to finish dead last. Get him 100 percent ready for next year when he starts earning his salary at $8.5 million.” Dhaliwal said.
He added, “Not sure yet, I can’t say if he’s going to require surgery. I believe he has talked to multiple doctors outside Vancouver, 2-4…we should know soon and I’m going to tell you something else. If he was healthy at the trade deadline, there were teams that I think would have shown interest. That’s not going to happen now.”
As Rick Dhaliwal mentions, with this season arleady being written off and the club declaring their plans to rebuild and hopefully get the first overall pick, the best course of action is to shut him down for the remainder of the season and get him back to full healthy by the time the puck drops in October for the 2026-27 campaign, but we’ll have to wait and see what doctors say.
