Syracuse, N.Y. — Perennial Section III hockey powerhouse West Genesee is causing ripples across the state again.
The Wildcats (11-4-1), defending sectional Division I champ, soared five spots to No. 10 in this week’s New York State Sportswriters Association poll. Section III’s other two representatives, Rome Free Academy (12-1) and Baldwinsville (7-2-3), remain locked at No. 5 and No. 11, respectively.
They fall behind Division I’s new No. 1, Canisius. That squad replaces previous leader of the pack Orchard Park, out of Section VI.
In Division II, Whitesboro (9-5) remained at No. 12 and Skaneateles (11-3) held firm at 13.
There was turnover at the top of Division II as well, with Section IV’s Hamburg taking over for Section I’s Pelham.
