A new report has revealed what the Vancouver Canucks could potentially receive in return for forward Elias Pettersson, if they opt to trade him ahead of the deadline.

The Vancouver Canucks are expected to be one of the busiest teams in the National Hockey League in the weeks leading up to the trade deadline, as Patrik Allvin looks to offload his pending unrestricted free agents, and perhaps some veteran players too.

“There’s a growing suspicion around the league that we will. I can just tell you from the volume of calls and the interest that the Vancouver Canucks have fielded that it feels like it’s trending in that direction and that he’s gaining some traction on the trade market.” Seravalli said on Monday’s edition of Frankly Hockey.

New report indicates what the Vancouver Canucks could get for Elias Pettersson

During Wednesday’s edition of Daily Faceoff Live, insider Irfaan Gaffar spoke about the Vancouver Canucks’ rebuild and what it means for Elias Pettersson’s future with the club.

Gaffar admitted that it’s going to be tough to trade Elias Pettersson due to his contract and it’s hard to gauge what the Vancouver Canucks could get for him, however, if they’re willing to retain salary or take on a bad contract, it’ll certainly help Patrik Allvin’s chances of maximizing the return for the 27-year-old centerman.

“So, for Elias Pettersson, the interesting one is the cap hit. It’s $11.6 [million] for the next forever. That’s a guy where you don’t really know what you’re going to get. He was a point-of-game player, was unbelievable in his rookie year and the year after. He’s a 102-point guy in this National Hockey League. But is he a number-one center? Is he a center where a team is going to look at and say, ‘Okay, we’re willing to give up X, Y, and Z, and then take on this contract in hopes the change of scenery can help this guy get back to that 102-point player?’ I’m not entirely sure how many teams are really, really interested in looking at that unless there’s some salary retained.” Gaffar said.

“Re Elias Pettersson: I would expect three quality pieces here coming back, a 1st round pick, a top 2 center; and then another big asset, that’s kind of what you’re probably looking at; it’s gonna be a hefty price.” Pagnotta said during an appearance on Inside Sports.

The next month and a half are going to be very interesting on the National Hockey League’s trade market and if the Vancouver Canucks are able to find a team to take on Elias Pettersson’s full salary, then it’s something that Patrik Allvin needs to seriously consider.
