The Toronto Maple Leafs’ upcoming outdoor practice weekend, scheduled to take place Jan. 24 to Jan. 26, has been cancelled.
For several years, the Leafs have been holding an outdoor practice weekend for fans to gather, but it was announced on Thursday that this year’s event, which was scheduled for this weekend, has been cancelled due to the weather.Â
“Due to the extreme weather conditions expected and with the safety of our fans and players in mind, the Maple Leafs Outdoor Practice weekend, originally scheduled from Saturday, January 24 to Monday, January 26 at the Westway Outdoor Rink, has been cancelled,” the Leafs wrote in a statement.
In order to try and make up for the situation, the Leafs will instead host an open practice at Mattamy Athletic Centre at Maple Leafs Gardens on Monday, Jan. 26.
“This will mark only the third time the Maple Leafs will return for an event to Maple Leaf Gardens, the home of the team for 68 seasons, since 1999. The Gardens also served as the first venue in Toronto to consistently host world-championship-calibre pro wrestling.Â
“Fans in attendance will have the opportunity to engage with this history as WWE Superstars support Maple Leafs players through a 3-on-3 tournament,” the statement from the Leafs reads.
Fans can sign up for Monday’s event beginning on Friday, Jan. 23, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. through fan access on the Maple Leafs app to try and win free tickets. Winners will be notified later in the day on Friday.
