FLINT, Mich. — An annual Mid-Michigan sports tradition returned for yet another run, on the ice and now at two different locations. The Mid Michigan High School Hockey Alumni Tournament has returned for its 14th edition of the tournament.
This year, along with building up one of the biggest sets of rosters and brackets, the tournament is being held at two different venues: Crystal Fieldhouse Arena (5371 Daly Farms Dr., Burton, MI 48509) and 810 Sports Complex (1160 S. Elms Rd., Flint, MI 48532).
This year the tournament proudly hosts 30 teams from 15 schools across Genesee and Lapeer counties featuring players competing in four age brackets: 18 & over, 30 & over, 40 & over and new this year, 50 & Over.
The tournament began on Friday, April 25th and concluded on Sunday April 27th with the winners taking home the prestigious “Mullett Cupp.”
Rico Phillips, Co-Director, of the annual tournament says the players that come back to play in this tournament are playing for the same glory and pride that they all wore back in the day.
“It creates a hometown feeling, a homecoming feeling. Everybody coming back home, we have players on our team that are coming from different states just to be here. So, and it’s all done in the name of charity on top of it. So you’re really getting more than just your average beer league hockey,” Phillips said.
