The Minnesota Wild had a dazzling victory on Thursday night at home over the Detroit Red Wings.

It was yet another contest that went to overtime, their fifth of the last ten games. It was also the eighth of the last fifteen to do so. Shockingly, it was also their first win on home ice in over a month.

The last one came against the Edmonton Oilers on January 20th. Heading into the game, the Wild had lost five straight in St. Paul.

Quinn Hughes and Kirill Kaprizov each had 3 points in the contest, with Kaprizov ending the game with a snipe in OT off of the stick of Hughes. It was Kaprizov’s 27th goal of the year and 62nd point. For Hughes, it was his 43rd assist of the year and 47th point.

Wild forward Kirill Kaprizov spoke with the media on Thursday night following his OT winner against the Red Wings.

Kaprizov was told that he looked “relieved” after scoring his first goal during a first period power play. “The Thrill” had a humorous response.

“You tell me I don’t score goals. I should be scoring.”

Kaprizov was then asked if he felt like he really wanted to contribute.

“Yeah. Yes, when you don’t score for a long time, but I try. I don’t think about it, but it’s always sometimes in your head. But, uh, it’s nice to win tonight. And, uh, score, yeah.”

The superstar forward then took a question about his winning goal, and the mentality that went into it.

“Yeah, it was, uh, it’s a nice play there, and just give me speed. And I just, uh, have a chance for the shot. Try to shoot. You know, and uh, it’s go in.”

Superstar defenseman Quinn Hughes was asked if it felt like Kirill Kaprizov was getting close to another big game like he had against the Red Wings.

“Yeah, I mean he’s obviously too good where things are gonna fall for him. I mean, he’s been on the score sheet a lot. I know it was on his mind to score. I think when you make that many plays, it’s all about just the percentages.

If you get 3 or 4 Grade A’s a game, sometimes those 3 are gonna go in and sometimes they’re not, and just sticking with the percentages and they should fall.”

The Minnesota Wild will host the Florida Panthers in their next contest on Saturday night.
