Sebastian Cossa was able to stay hot in frigid Manitoba.

The 6-foot-7 Red Wings prospect goalie made 20 saves and was named the No. 1 star in the Grand Rapids Griffins’ 2-1 win against the Manitoba Moose. The win gave the Griffins an AHL-record 17-game (15-0-1-1) road points streak.

Cossa’s strong play this season makes him the source of much conversation on Red Wings’ fans boards.  Fans hope he will receive some opportunity in Detroit. But given how well the Red Wings are playing, the Red Wings aren’t looking to make changes. With John Gibson playing like he’s the NHL’s top goalie the Red Wings prefer to have Cossa in GR where he can play the bulk of the games. If Cossa is called up, it will as a backup. How many games would he play?

Cossa is 18-2-2 in the AHL this season, with 1.77 goals-against average and .933 save percentage. He has given up two or fewer goals in 17 (77.2%) of his 22 appearances.

Gabriel Seger’s shorthanded tally at 12:04 of the third period was the game-winning goal. The Griffins will remain in Manitoba to play the Moose at 3 p.m on Sunday

Detroit defense prospect Shai Buium, injured for most of this season, picked up his first assist in this game.
