The New Jersey Devils are trying to pull us back. It was my New Year’s resolution that I won’t be fooled again by a small sampling of success. However, after two plus months of garbage puck, Jersey has won three in a row and five of their last six. The Devils are now in a position to be just one point out of third place by evening’s end. With that said this is a classic let down spot for me as a fan.

Let me set the table. It’s a snow day here in the NY/NJ area. The meatballs are soaking in the sauce as I type. Loaves of fresh semolina lay on the counter, preventing me from typing this faster. There’s fresh mozzarella and a stack of chicken cutlets about to be fried. On my front porch, nestled in a bank of snow, a bunch of ice cold Coors Lights await. A 3pm puck drop, coinciding with an afternoon of NFL championship football await. Can it get any better than this moment right now? Probably not.

If the Devils lay an egg today, like they often have in recent big spots, it ruins the day. Every single time I look forward to a game, a  potential turning point, a chance to change the narrative with this team, they hurt me. Whether it’s the Tate McRae game, whiffing on Quinn, or the subsequent Vancouver loss at home months back, they fail to build on any momentum. Even if my 17 leg, $2 to win $1,000,000,000 parlay hits, I’ll still be lacking on the inside if the Devils don’t make a statement in Seattle today.

Oh, oh, sometimes I get a bad feeling…am I alone in this? I doubt it. Let’s get this W and move back to The Rock Johnny Mac Night, which will make for a hell of another let down spot…damn I hate being this pessimistic, but the Devils have done it to me…feel free to roast me for the Coors Lights in the comments, I’m not easily offended. Go Devils!
