The Laval Rocket officially announced that its young defenseman, David Reinbacher, is now being evaluated on a day-to-day basis.

This is due to an upper-body injury.

It’s news that Montreal Canadiens fans were watching closely, since he is obviously an important name for the organization, even though he is currently playing in Laval.

The organization confirmed the update on Monday, specifying that the 21-year-old Austrian’s condition will be monitored closely on a daily basis.

Reinbacher therefore seems, fortunately, to have avoided the worst.

Before heading permanently to the dressing room, the 5th overall pick in the 2023 draft had still managed to get on the scoresheet with an unusual goal.

Another setback for David Reinbacher’s development?

This latest blow comes at a bad time for the young prospect, who has already missed a significant portion of his North American career due to various injuries, including a major knee surgery in the past.

Since the start of the 2025-2026 season, Reinbacher had been showing encouraging signs of progress with 14 points, including 4 goals, in 33 games.

His forced absence will leave a gap on Pascal Vincent’s defensive corps as the Rocket battles for positioning in the North Division standings.

Although the team did not provide a precise timetable, the “day-to-day” status suggests he may have avoided the worst despite the violence of the hit he absorbed on the ice.

The organization’s medical staff will continue daily evaluations to determine when it will be safe for him to return to play.

We will keep you updated, and even if it was already fairly clear, we can forget any possibility of a short-term call-up of David Reinbacher by the Montreal Canadiens.
